Mishka was outstretched in the sun, letting the warm rays heat up his fur as he rested. He wasn't asleep, the brute simply had his eyes closed as he laid on his back. A light breeze drifted through his fur, disturbing the grass of the flatland. He should probably get up soon and get to work, there was something for him to do as always. A sigh escaped him as he trudged up to his paws. He stretched and shook out his fur, loosening up any grass that'd found its way there.
His blue eyes scanned the area the pack had called home, many were out and about bustling to complete their assigned tasks. He started to head into the heart of the pack but a small part of his brain stopped him. He could work, or he could adventure. Another extended trip through the territory wouldn't hurt. If he was caught, he'd just say he was patrolling, rather than trying to find himself into some trouble. Not like there wasn't any explicit rule that told him he couldn't leave without permission right? Mishka's mind was already made up by this point. He let out a yawn and quietly turned himself around, heading away from the camp. He wondered if it were possible to rope someone into this with him? He could see this being a regular thing.

Scarsby usually was the first one up and the last one to fall asleep at night, as far as he knew anyway. Currently, he was coming back on his latest patrol, his eye searching the forest for anything interesting; but of course, nothing was ever that interesting to Scarsby anymore, not like it used to. He had seen some things and they far out ranked what he had seen here so far. He meandered along, but still with a purpose, before he noticed a packmate of his: Mishka. He hadn't really interacted with the wolf much but he gave him a look and spoke with his rugged voice as he passed, "I already checked that way, there isn't anything." he let his half-furless tail drag on the ground as he continued walking back to camp.

The male had never talked to him before now, he didn't even think they'd been this close before. Which was kind of sad, Mishka should probably make more effort in getting acquainted to his packmates since after all, his survival did depend on them. "There's nothing? Are you sure?" Mishka gave a nervous chuckle. Scarby wouldn't sell him out would he? "Can't ever be too sure, so I'm gonna just....double check."
He paused for a moment and looked over Scarby. His eyes instantly went to the half-furred tail the male was dragging around. "You could... come with me?"

Scarsby stopped when he heard that, having not before he heard the male suggest he join him. His tail swished from side to side, ragged ears flitting to the side as he questioned the wolf.
"Come with you? After I have already checked?" he finally turned his massive form around, looking the brute straight in the eyes with his singular orb. At first he wondered if this young brute was questioning his skills and accuracy on whether he had scented intruders or not, but then he realized that this must be some kind of way of asking for socialization. He was old enough to remember wanting to be social when he was with his former group; whether they were horrific souls or not.
"Well if that's what you think we should do, then fine." he grunted and turned to follow, realizing he was only going back to the group to lay on his side and become a somber pile of bones and fur all day anyway.

Scarsby seemed to be larger than he was before, or maybe Mishka never noticed until the male was this close. But, he dwarfed him. He started along the path he'd determined they'd take, as Scarsby said before he definitely checked through the area already. He didn't come out here to do actual work anyways, he was sure Scarsby did a good job at patrolling, Mishka couldn't do any better. "We've never talked before I've noticed." Mishka turned his head slightly as they ventured deeper into the forest. He stopped and turned, straying from the path Scarsby had taken and instead weaving through the trees. "Now that I think about it, I don't really see you around much?"

Scarsby didn't even flick his ears as Mishka spoke to him, walking along the path he had been taking back. He sighed deeply, unsure of why he began to socialize with this wolf but maybe it was for the greater good for his place here as he continued lumbering along beside him. He noticed he began straying the path but said nothing more as he spoke to him once more. He turned so his eye could see Mishka and stopped to stare at him.
"I don't really see myself fit to be around others except to serve the pack. No one is ever up when I'm awake, so I do everything on my own time." he admitted with a huff, glancing to the side to check the forest for anything interesting, but of course, nothing stirred.
"Why are you here then? If not to do work." he grunted as he actually raised his head, towering above the wolf, but simply looking at him now.

M I S H K A »»————- ————-«« warrior | male Huh. Scarsby is a good little worker bee as he expected. He could probably learn a thing or two from the male. Mishka wagged his tail softly as he started to take in the new sights. "I am working. I'm exploring." He grinned devilishly. "Nothing wrong with taking a break here and there to have fun."
Mishka turned to the wolf, now facing him head on. Scarsby towered over him, but he seemed harmless. For now atleast. Judging by his appearance it seemed he was no stranger to fights. The more he looked at the wolf, the more he was fighting the urge to take his appearance. Though it didn't seem like Scarsby participated in any kind of fun, so he wasn't sure if his little trick would go over well with the wolf. "Don't you ever have fun Scarsby?"

If Scarsby knew how to laugh, he sure would have at his packmate's comment. Instead, he huffed and continued to stare at the younger wolf's face, "Amusement doesn't sit well with me. It's a waste of time." he stated and began to walk the straying path further past Mishka.
"If it's exploring you're going to do then you should do it properly and beyond such borders." he explained, taking from his previous experiences as a nomad. "It's a wonder you're living in a pack without working." he huffed, staring ahead now as he pawed his way further, heading towards the furthest border that could take them outside the boundaries if he so pleased.

M I S H K A »»————- ————-«« warrior | male Mishka huffed as Scarsby brushed right past him to just continue on. The older male didn't even crack a smile. "Waste of time?" He didn't want to be left behind so he bounded after the other wolf, taking up the rear of their duo. "It's not easy to explore outside the borders. I've heard somethings about the other packs.." He sighed. Mishka could hold his own in a fight, but based on the description of the wolves from the other packs, he didn't stand much of a chance. He had plenty of life to live and would rather not become a chew-toy age before he'd reached his prime. "I'm delicate." He laughed. "Hey! Wait- I do work. I'm a pretty decent hunter for your information. Idalia wouldn't have let me stay if I was useless, that's how this works right?" Mishka quickened his pace to brush up against the male's side. Scarsby had his eye focused straight ahead and walked with a determination. He obviously knew more about the land than Mishka knew. Anytime he snuck out he never paid much attention to anything other than the borders, which he learned very early on to not go anywhere close to them. "Where are we going?"stellardog |

Scarsby listened to Mishka's words, especially the ones in his own defense. He flicked his ears in response at first and then realized that he was right; from what he knew about their pack leader, she wouldn't have let him stay. It was then that he decided that passing judgment on him would be useless as he was realizing he had nothing on Mishka to make any real judgements.
As he was brushed against he moved a stride to the side to avoid such touching, not even acknowledging that his space had been invaded. "You made your place here, that makes sense. At least you do something. You obviously aren't well off from manipulating those higher than you. And yet you only do so much. Why are you in a group?" he asked, neglecting to look at Mishka as he said all this, even ignoring his questions and comments on their location or fears of leaving the territory.

"You think I manipulated them to get into the pack?" He should have been insulted but the brute was amused. "I wouldn't call it manipulating. That's a bit harsh. I just- pleaded my case."
Mishka straightened up his posture as they continued to walk. "Why wouldn't I be in a group? It's hard surviving on your own. I tried. Wasn't right for me so I came here." He huffed. "Why are you here? You seem to be able to take care of yourself on your own?" He narrowed his eyes at the wolf ahead of him. He had blatantly ignored his question about their destination. Which meant Mishka was no longer in control and just going on for the ride. stellardog |

Scarsby flicked his tail at Mishka's answers, continuing at his slow pace that led them further and further away from the heart of their territory. "You're right, it is hard to live out there alone. But at least you have no one else deciding whether you're a monster or not." he rumbled and smelled the air to check his path and if they were going the right way. "You could say I found a purpose here. In a place that was neutral enough to be myself." he admitted, never having thought he would he sharing such things with anyone, especially a packmate that was practically a stranger. dionysus |

M I S H K A »»————- ————-«« warrior | male Mishka hummed as the older male responded to him. He was starting to see that there was some dimension to him that he hadn't thought about before. "Well if it makes you feel any better, I don't think you're a monster." Bit rough around the edges sure, but that was obviously due to something that happened in Scarsby's past. Whether or not he'd share that with him was his business. The smaller brute began to notice just how far from the camp they'd drifted despite the slow pace. Was Scarsby leading him out of the territory, and if so how far would the two of them go? Hm. He began thinking about the male's last response. Blistering Sun was apparently a place where he could be himself, free of judgement. But Mishka had no idea who that even was. "So... who are you? Let me get to know you a little better since we're adventuring buddies now." stellardog |
